Improve Your Child’s Vocabulary and Make it Fun!
We all want our kids to learn continually, even while they are not in school.
Parents can keep their education going even after the school day ends and during weekends and time off from school.
Keep the momentum going by expanding their vocabulary. Kids are like sponges when it comes to taking in new information. By making learning fun, you are giving your child the tools to develop language, and they won’t feel like it’s a lesson.
Here are three fun ways to sneak in vocabulary-building lessons no matter where you are!
A Day at the Zoo
Take a family trip to the zoo. As your child observes all the exciting animals, they will learn new animal names, countries of origin, and descriptive words about their behaviors and habits.
Your child will be delighted to learn as much as possible about the unique creatures yet won’t feel like they’re being given a tedious lesson. The time spent together as a family will make for special memories too.
Talk with Adults (Supervised)
While your friends or family are around, let the kids join you for age-appropriate conversation. They will learn new words and hear about interesting topics that can help expand their vocabulary.
The kids will get a thrill from being allowed at the “adult table” and will get a kick out of participating in grown-up discussions.
Sing Together
Whether in the car or hanging out at home, put on some upbeat child-appropriate music and sing! Some of the words in the lyrics will be new to your child, so point those out and give your child their meaning. Suggest using the term later that day when applicable.
Your child will be eager to play new songs to learn new words the fun way!
Do you have a fun way you work on building your child’s vocabulary?
