Sweet Snacks That Won’t Pack on the Winter Pounds
Lots of us are looking to shave off some extra pounds as part of our New Year’s resolutions. Others of us just want to maintain a healthy diet even during those cold winter months when we may not be as active. Regardless of your reason for wanting to eat well, it’s hard to ignore your pesky sweet tooth. Here are some absolutely delicious sweet snacks that are full of satisfaction but won’t bulk you up.
Blueberries
Blueberries are like nature’s candy. They are small, sweet, and oh-so satisfying. An entire cup is less than 100 calories! Plus, you get the added bonus of Vitamin C and fiber. Pop blueberries in your mouth as they are, or sprinkle some on cereal or oatmeal. They taste great on top of frozen yogurt and with a dollop of lite whipped topping too. Kids love blueberries for their small size and sweet flavor. Pack a baggie into their school lunch as a healthy snack. Freeze fresh blueberries to use in muffin recipes and smoothies. The possibilities are endless.
Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is rich and smooth and naturally high in protein so it really fills you up. Add sugar-free jam to sweeten it up for a tempting snack or dessert. Stir in some fresh fruit and seeds for a wholesome breakfast to start your day off with a kick of health. You can even mix in some honey and a bit of fruit juice and freeze for a creamy frozen dessert. For a chocolate craving, stir in some cocoa powder and a packet of sugar substitute for a low-cal, yet decadent delight.
Lite Smoothie
There’s nothing quite like a cold and thick milkshake, but you can make a sweet smoothie that’s just as delicious but so much better for you. Combine ½ cup skim or soy milk, 1 packet sweetener, ½ cup berries, 1 teaspoon honey, ½ banana, and a dash of cinnamon in a blender with a few ice cubes. Serve up in a tall glass while frothy. Sip and savor! It’s a great breakfast or after school snack for the kids.
