My Kid is Unmotivated! How to Get Your Child to Be Passionate and Excited About New Things

Youth is full of first times and new experiences. That said, you may find that there comes a time when your child gets a bout of laziness or claims boredom. Lack of motivation is something you can put an end to before it becomes a way of life. Here are some tips to get your child pumped up and ready to get out there with passion and a zest for life.

Create Something

When kids use their talents and creativity to make something new, their inspiration shines from within. Try baking cookies from scratch or building a birdhouse. Assemble a giant puzzle or finger paint a masterpiece. As long as the activity is something your child hasn’t tried before, anything hands-on will be enticing. Try a few different things and see what sparks your child’s imagination. Before you know it, your child will have an exciting new hobby to look forward to.

Offer Rewards

There’s nothing like a little prize to get a child willing and ready to try their best. If your child’s not motivated by an inner initiative, give a little boost with a modest rewards system. For instance, tell your child that he can watch that extra 15 minutes of TV if he agrees to participate in an after-school activity or helps his sibling with a school project. The prospect of a reward will make your child more interested in going for it. Soon enough, your child will find enjoyment in the activity itself – no reward required.

Join a Team

Sometimes, all it takes is a group of other kids to get your child interested and excited about participating in something motivational. Be it a sports team, a book club, or a Scouts troop, the force of a team with a common goal is inspirational and makes a child want to do their best for the team as a whole. Plus, friendships will blossom, making your child excited to see these friends regularly.

Motivation comes from within but you can help pull it out from a child that can use a loving push in the right direction.
