Little Ways to Lift Your Child’s Spirits

Your child may be a ray of sunshine, but every now and then, a cloud can darken their day. When your little one needs an uplifting boost, your words and actions are what’s important. It doesn’t take much to turn that frown upside down.

Here are some ways to use your parenting power to work your magic!

Get Silly

Don’t take it all so seriously. If your child is in a bad mood or is upset about something, being goofy will get you a grin.

You could dance around the house, tell corny jokes, or put on a funny hat. Being playful will show your child that life is full of ups and downs, and we can decide how we react to unpleasant situations. Your silliness will bring a smile to your child’s face.

Read a Book

“Escape” into an adventure while flipping though the pages of a good book. The story will get your child’s mind off what is bothering them. Choose a book with an upbeat plot and interesting pictures.

If you’re not in the reading mood, a kid-friendly movie will also do the trick.

Share a Treat

Bake a batch of cookies or go out for an ice cream cone. While together, you can help your child sort out their feelings. And who could pass up a sweet treat?

A Warm Hug

That feeling of security your child can only get from you might be exactly what they need. Knowing you’re there to soothe and support them is so comforting. A bad day can be “cured” with your empathetic embrace.
