How to Help Your Kids Build Resilience

Life is full of ups and downs.

As adults, we understand that there will be twists and turns along the journey. But for kids, when something isn’t going right, they may think they’ll never recover or see things get back to normal.

When times are difficult or distressing, you can help your child stay positive and strong. They can snap back with these five supportive techniques to build resilience.

Practice What You Preach

Show your child that there’s always another shot to make it right. Hold your head up high and believe that you will achieve.

No failures, only teachable moments!

Look On the Bright Side

Focus on what went right rather than the mistakes made along the way. Seeing the glass as “half full” is always the way to go. There’s no need to dwell on what has already been done.

Use Positive Affirmations

No matter the situation, your perspective is powerful. Encouragement from others as well as high self-esteem keeps kids going strong and sticking to it.

Have a Game Plan

Map out your goals so you have a guide. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again! Be flexible and forgiving. There’s no losing when you’re doing your best.

Praise Every Step, No Matter How Small

Achievements come bit by bit, so be patient. Be proud of each endeavor and the obstacles you’ve overcome.
