How to Have an Indoor Camping Party
When the weather starts to get colder we tend to bring the entertainment indoors. Who said the same can’t apply to camping? Sure, camping is traditionally done outside in some woodsy area inside a tent, but you can create a similar atmosphere inside the house so the family can enjoy a “camping” adventure no matter the weather. The experience will be a bonding one, and certainly a time the kids will reflect upon later in life as a memorable family moment.
Set Up the “Tent”
Pick the largest area of the house and move all the furniture towards the walls. Pin up some bed sheets over the edges of the furniture to create a giant tent. Make sure there is a large slit to go in and out of the tent when necessary. Bring in some pillows and sleeping bags along with a few flashlights. If the kids want some stuffed animals, that would be fun… you can pretend they are animals who would live in the woods! Make sure there is enough room for everyone to lie down once it’s time to hit the sack.
Make Some Goodies
Camping has its special treats that make it feel unique. Make some s’mores in the oven and serve them inside the tent. They go perfectly with hot cocoa! You can also make a pot of franks and beans for dinner or something else that’s rustic. Otherwise, pack a picnic basket full of sandwiches, cookies, chips, and fruit, and nibble from there all evening. Just be sure to have plenty of napkins or lay out a plastic tablecloth under the food so you’re not sleeping in a pile of crumbs!
Tell Stories and Sing
One of the best parts of camping is the story telling and sing-a-longs. If the kids are old enough, tell some scary ghost stories. Otherwise, share tales of the past and reminisce about your favorite times as a family. Bring some music into the tent with sing-a-longs to favorite tunes the whole family knows and loves. This is a TV-free zone… you’ve got to pretend you are in the wilderness. Same goes for smartphones and tablets.
Have fun during your indoor camping party!
