Sharing and Giving: Wrapping Up December at AMC

As December comes to a close, we take time to reflect on a month centered around sharing and giving. Throughout the month at AMC, children explored what it means to care for others, work together, and show kindness in everyday moments. These experiences helped children build meaningful social skills that support both their learning and their relationships.

Each day, children practiced sharing toys, taking turns, helping clean up, and offering support to friends. While these moments may seem small, they are powerful learning opportunities. Through sharing and giving, children begin to understand patience, empathy, and cooperation. Over time, these skills help children feel more confident and connected in group settings.

In our classrooms, we saw children grow as they practiced generosity in natural ways. For example, children helped one another during play, worked together to keep their classroom tidy, and used kind words when a friend felt frustrated. Because of these experiences, children learned that giving and helping others can feel good for everyone involved.

🌱 Why Sharing and Giving Matter in Early Childhood

Learning to share and give plays an important role in early childhood development. According to Zero to Three, sharing and turn-taking help young children build self-regulation and manage big feelings while learning how to interact positively with others.

In addition, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) highlights that kindness, cooperation, and empathy are foundational skills that support lifelong learning and well-being. When children practice sharing and giving, they build strong social and emotional foundations that last well beyond the classroom.

These skills do not develop overnight. However, with consistent practice and guidance, children begin to understand that kindness is something they can choose every day.

As families celebrate the season in many different ways, we are grateful for the strong partnership between home and school that supports children’s growth. Together, we help children see that sharing and giving are not just seasonal ideas, but values they can carry with them throughout the year.

From all of us at AMC, we wish you and your family a happy, peaceful, and joyful holiday season. 💛✨
We look forward to welcoming January and beginning our next value: Positive Mindset, as we help children start the new year with confidence and optimism.
