Tips to Make Bath Time Fun for Your Toddler

Bath time is a pleasure for some toddlers, but for others, it’s not something they’re all too excited to participate it. Who knows why? Perhaps it’s the water, the soap, the lack of control, or something else, but lots of tots are not too keen on being bathed. You can help ease their anxiety or distaste by using some simple techniques to make the experience one they’ll enjoy and even look forward to. Try one or all of these the next time your little one is reluctant to get in the bath.

Bring in Some Waterproof Toys

Bath time will become playtime when you bring some fun rubber and other waterproof toys into the tub. Kids love squeaky rubber ducks, floaty toys, and other fun and distracting playthings in the water with them. To make these toys extra special, reserve certain toys for bath time only. This way, your child will look forward to the bath since he will get to play with these special bath-only toys. Keep a neat bin beside the tub to store the toys while not in use.

Play Some Lively Music

Who said bath time had to be silent? Play some kid-friendly tunes on your iPod or waterproof radio in the bathroom. Kids will love to sing along while you help them wash and you can join in the fun! Pick new songs each time to keep things fresh, or pick out a specific soundtrack of your child’s favorite tunes. He will know it’s bath time once he hears you play the first song.

Bring in a Sippy Cup

If your child cries or yells when he’s in the bath, consider a sippy cup full of milk, juice, or something else he likes to drink. The drink will keep him satisfied as you bathe him. You can even go for a popsicle, hey, he’s getting bathed anyhow, so any drips will be washed away with the bathwater. Yum in the tub!

Call a Relative on Speaker Phone

To keep your tot entertained, why not give a call to grandma or an aunt or uncle as you bathe your child? Keep the phone far enough from the tub so it doesn’t fall in, but close enough that everyone can hear you, and put it on speaker. Time talking to a loved one will occupy your child and keep him less focused on what you’re doing. Before he knows it, bath time will be over and he will be glad to have spoken to a relative.
