Playdate Ideas for a Group of Kids of 5 or More

Playdates are a great way for your child to interact with other children his age and have a fun time doing so. Most of the time, there are just 2 children involved, but what if you’ve got a larger group on your hands? Here are some great ideas for activities for playdate groups of 5 or more young children.

Show and Tell

Children love to show off their toys and gadgets or share tales of recent adventures. A show and tell event is a great way to keep a small group engaged and involved. Suggest that each child bring something to share with the play group and prepare a brief explanation. The other kids will enjoy hearing about each child’s items and stories and will love sharing theirs. This is a great thing to do for variety because you can always have a new set of show and tell items every time you get the kids together. You can even try different themes or colors as a twist each time.

Musical Chairs

The music and easy set-up for a game of musical chairs is a tried and true party favorite. Set up a bunch of chairs, one less than the number of kids in the group. Play some kid-friendly tunes and have the kids march around the chairs which you’ve set up in a circle. Once the music stops, all the kids must find a chair to sit in. The kid left standing must sit aside. Remove one chair each round and the last kid sitting wins! After the game is over, the kids can dance and sing to the tunes! Let the kids compile the music playlist so you are sure they’ll love the songs.

Make Your Own Sundae

If you’ve got a large group of kids at the house, snack time can become something creative. Set up a long table with all sorts of ice cream toppings in separate bowls such as sprinkles, chocolate chips, chopped nuts, diced fruit, shredded coconut, mini marshmallows, and more. Place out a can of whipped cream and a bottle of chocolate sauce too. Give each child a bowl with a scoop or two of ice cream or frozen yogurt and let them top their bowls with their favorite toppings. Use toss-away dishes to make clean-up a breeze. The kids will love making their own snack and will be back to playing shortly afterwards.
