Grocery Swaps That Will Save You Money
Feeding a family can get expensive. We all want to feed our families well, with a variety of healthy and tasty foods and beverages for meals at home and school lunches. Costs vary throughout the country and different items are available more readily depending upon where you live. With all the expenses racked up by raising a family, the good news is that you can save considerably by making supermarket swaps that won’t sacrifice flavor but will make a difference for the better in your wallet. Try these simple money saving swaps the next time you are food shopping.
Buy Generic
You may have grown accustomed to shopping for name brands, but generic or supermarket brands can be just as good and are cheaper than well-known advertised brands. Condiments are great for generic purchases, they usually taste nearly the same. Go for generic ketchup, mustard, salad dressing, mayonnaise, and even oils. Canned foods are perfectly fine when you opt for the generic types. Beans, veggies, fruit salads, dips, and condensed milk products are great generic finds. Look around your market and compare prices. You will see generic saves lots of money once you add things up.
Bulk Up
Buying in bulk can save you big bucks in the long run. Choose bulk items for foods your family goes through regularly and often such as breakfast cereal, peanut butter, crackers, pasta, etc. You can always freeze bulk items that may go bad otherwise. Think about items like coffee, paper products, and toiletries too when it comes to bulk shopping. If you have the room for storage, it’s a wonderful way to save.
Plan Meals Around What’s on Sale
Before hitting the grocery store, check out their circular to see what the weekly specials will be and plan your meals and recipes around the sale. If chicken breasts are featured for instance, make meals like chicken salad, kebabs, or cutlets. You can also compare supermarket prices and sales if there is more than one market nearby. Create your shopping list based on sales and stick to it for a great way to cut costs.
