Fun Ways to Get Siblings to Get Along

Sibling rivalry will always exist and has endured for generations. While a small dose of brotherly and sisterly tension is natural and expected, most of the time we hope siblings will co-exist peacefully and even want to be pals. Here are some ways you can make getting along fun and something your kids will actually desire to do. Once their friends in school or daycare catch on, all siblings will soon be best buddies!

Scavenger Hunt

Setting the kids up on a team together to do a small scavenger hunt around the house or yard is a great way for them to work as a sibling team. When they need each other in order to complete a task (especially if there is a prize at the end), siblings will be inclined to make their partnership work. They will find joy in discovering each item along the hunt together and will root one another on during the process. Scavenger hunts are fun and the kids can do them rain or shine. Make a quick list of things to find and the kids will have a blast as a dynamic duo!

Baking Together

Kids love to bake (and eat) sweets. Baking together is a great way to experience teamwork with a delicious result at the end. Be sure to supervise, but let the kids mix and measure (and even take turns licking the spoon!). The siblings will be proud of their creations and can share with family and friends, or even bring their goodies to class if the school allows it. Knowing that together they created a yummy treat will bring them closer and they’ll look forward to baking again in the future.

Mini Sleepover

Allow the siblings have a mini sleepover party in one of their bedrooms or the living room. Let them stay up late watching movies or playing with toys. Pop some popcorn and let the fun begin. They will have this secret and special time to talk and joke, and bond as only siblings can. In the morning, you can surprise them with a tasty breakfast, or they can even make one together! Mini sleepovers with siblings are great when no other friends are around to play with. The kids will always remember these precious times as they get older.

Trip to Grandparents

A trip to the grandparents’ house is the perfect time for siblings to bond. Since they are the only kids around, they will want to hang out and play together. Bring along some fun games or books they can enjoy with their grandparents. Kids love the special attention they can only get from grandma and grandpa and will relish in the time together with them. These moments will always live as fond memories in their hearts when one day their grandparents are no longer with them.
