Five Things to Do This December

It’s holiday season and we are looking forward to the end of fall.

Make the most of this month by checking off these boxes below. It will be a December to remember when you dream big, do your part, and spread cheer whenever and wherever you can.

Make New Year’s Resolutions

Get ready for a brand new year with an even better version of yourself. Teach your kids to focus on what they can fine-tune or do differently. There is always something to strive for. A new year gives us a reason to reflect on the last one and make the next 12 months more meaningful.

Eat Good Food

There will be plenty of celebrations around holiday time with lots of food no matter where you go. Indulge and enjoy now! You can get back to your regular eating plan in January. Show your kids that it is OK to treat yourself without going overboard. Who can resist all those cookies?

Call Your Loved Ones

You may not be able to get together with friends and family this year. Give them a phone call or do a video chat. It is nice to keep in touch throughout the year, but if you’ve been busy, now’s the time to check in. Some people are alone during the holidays, and your thoughtfulness will be appreciated.

Send Seasons’ Greetings

Mail out your yearly family holiday greeting cards or send them by email. This simple gesture will be a warm welcome to winter. It’s fun to take new photos each year and share them with friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. Save each greeting card in an album to look back on in the years to come.

Volunteer

Give back by doing something supportive and selfless. See if your place of worship needs help during the holidays or if a soup kitchen or food pantry could use an extra set of hands. Donate warm coats and other necessities if possible. Find out if a nursing home needs volunteers. Your children will learn an important life lesson when they see you giving your time to those in need. If you don’t have the opportunity to volunteer, perhaps you can give what you can to a charity you believe in.

What do you plan to do this December? Do you have special family rituals that you look forward to each winter?
