Five Summer-Themed Books for Kids
Take your book to the beach!
Summer is just days away, and the warm weather and fun to be had is top of mind. Schoolwork will take a backseat for a bit, but that doesn’t mean reading for pleasure isn’t part of the program.
Keep your child’s reading skills in check by reading together regularly over the summer months. When it’s time to head back to school in the fall, your child will be better prepared for the year ahead in terms of vocabulary. Not to mention, these five books below are adorable and entertaining.
Mouse’s First Summer by Lauren Thompson
This board book tells a story of all the fun a picnic in the park can be with friends. The cute illustrations are appealing to young children.
I See Summer by Charles Ghigna
This paperback is a fun way for children to work on their counting skills. As the family in the story works in the garden, your child can follow along and count the fruits and veggies ready for picking.
Is It Warm Enough for Ice Cream? by DK
Your kids are probably asking you this question already! Go through the changing seasons in this board book, and when summer comes around, it’s finally time for ice cream.
The Sandcastle That Lola Built by Megan Maynor
Building sandcastles at the beach is a classic summertime pastime, and Lola gets lots of kids to help her create something special on the sand. But look out for the ocean waves!
Pete the Cat: Pete at the Beach by James Dean
Pete the Cat is having fun at the beach, collecting shells, and playing in the sand. He wants to cool off in the ocean, but he’s afraid of the water. Find out what happens as Pete plays on the beach.
