FAQ's
What kind of learning will my child experience in an AMC affiliated Family Child Care program?
In an AMC affiliated Family Child Care (FCC) program, your child will enjoy hands-on, play-centered learning guided by The Creative Curriculum. This research-based approach supports growth in all areas—social-emotional, language, literacy, math, science, and the arts. Each month, a Network Education Specialist visits the program to coach the provider, deliver new materials, and adapt lessons to your child’s unique interests and developmental stage. The result is a nurturing, high-quality environment designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and prepare children for school success.
How is Family Childcare Care program different from traditional daycare centers?
FCC programs are small, home-based environments that offer more personalized attention and flexibility. With fewer children, providers can tailor activities to each child’s learning style and needs. Families benefit from close relationships with providers, who often serve as trusted partners in their child’s development. At the same time, FCC programs are part of the AMC Network, ensuring families receive the same level of quality, curriculum support, and oversight as in a larger center.
How do you ensure 3K children are ready for Preschool?
Our FCC programs are aligned with NYC early learning standards to build the foundational skills children need for school. Through small group instruction, intentional play, and individualized attention, children gain confidence in literacy, math, problem-solving, and self-regulation. Providers also support social-emotional growth by teaching cooperation, resilience, and independence. By the end of 3K, children are well-prepared for a smooth transition to Pre-K and beyond.
How does your network support my child’s developmental milestones?
Our FCC providers receive regular coaching and training to observe, assess, and respond to each child’s needs. We also partner with families to complete developmental screenings at enrollment and throughout the year. These screenings help us track progress and identify areas where extra support might be needed. Based on these insights, we design individualized learning experiences that strengthen essential skills, encourage independence, and support each child’s natural growth.
Do you offer support for children with special needs or developmental delays?
Yes. If a child shows signs of needing additional support, our network team works closely with families to guide them through the NYC Department of Education’s special education referral process. We partner with specialists to connect families with evaluations, IEP (Individualized Education Program) services, and ongoing developmental supports. This ensures that children with unique needs receive the right services while continuing to thrive in a safe, inclusive environment.
How often are FCC providers monitored and supported?
Every FCC provider receives monthly visits from a Network Education Specialist who observes classrooms, provides coaching, and shares new materials and strategies. Providers also attend ongoing training sessions to strengthen their practice. In addition, our network ensures that each program complies with Department of Health regulations, offering families peace of mind that safety, learning, and care standards are consistently met.
How do teachers track and share my child’s progress?
Providers use daily observations and developmental assessments to monitor growth across key learning areas. Families receive updates throughout the year, as well as two opportunities for formal parent-teacher conferences. These meetings give parents the chance to review progress, celebrate achievements, and set new goals together with the provider. This open communication ensures that families remain active partners in their child’s learning journey.
How does the Family Childcare Network work with parents in supporting their child’s development?
We view parents as their child’s first and most important teachers. To strengthen this partnership, our FCC Network offers parent workshops, one-on-one support, and at-home learning activities designed to extend classroom experiences. We collaborate with families to create consistent routines and strategies that support learning and behavior both at school and at home. Together, we ensure children receive the consistent encouragement they need to thrive.
