Delicious Summer Mocktails

Refreshing cocktails are perfect for a weekend brunch, a sunny summer afternoon BBQ, or evening dinner outdoors, but sometimes we want to steer clear of the alcohol. These “mocktails” are as sophisticated and tasty as cocktails without the addition of any alcoholic beverages. They are perfect for expectant moms and any other of us looking for a virgin drink.

Cos-no-politan

We’ve all become familiar with the fruity Cosmopolitan, or “Cosmo” as it’s often called, but you can enjoy the same mouthwatering taste without the vodka. Mix equal parts of cranberry juice, orange juice, and lemon-lime flavored seltzer water. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon and stir. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a lime wedge. You won’t miss the vodka and will be refreshed on a hot summer day!

Sober Sangria

Fruity sangria is delicious with a Mexican meal or on its own. Nix the wine and brandy and make yours healthier and alcohol-free. Chop an array of fruits such as apples, citrus, grapes, and mango and place into a large wine glass. Top with a mixture of equal parts grape juice, grapefruit juice, and lemon-lime soda. Add ice and stir. Even the kids will enjoy this fruit-based delight!

Mom
-osa

There’s nothing like a sparkling mimosa with Sunday brunch. Champagne and OJ make for the perfect sip. But pregnant moms-to-be and those avoiding alcohol still want to enjoy a zippy cocktail too. Try the “Mom-osa”! Fill a Champagne flute ¼ of the way with freshly-squeezed orange juice. Fill the rest of the glass with ginger ale. The unique combination of flavors is even better than the real thing!

Buddy Mary

Another favorite brunch or afternoon cocktail is the zesty Bloody Mary. You can still enjoy that zip of spice and savor without the addition of vodka or other alcohol. Make the “Buddy Mary” instead! Simply combine 1 cup tomato juice with ½ teaspoon horseradish. Add a dash of black pepper and hot sauce for those who love the extra heat. Pour into a tall ice-filled glass and add a lemon wedge, a celery stalk, and olives for garnish. Bottoms up!
