Character Building Unit at AMC – Reflective Practice
All My Children is dedicated to optimal quality childcare and education.
We want YOUR child to know that each positive thought and action can make this world a better place. HOW?
We will implement Reflective Practice into our daily schedule.
We will begin our circle time each day with a mindful “morning moment.” The purpose of this moment is to have a calm fresh start to the day; to breathe, focus positively and intentionally, and think about something that is of primary significance. This has a powerful effect on the child’s learning and living inside, and outside, the classroom.
We ask YOU to please take a moment out of your schedule and discuss with your child about what YOU would like them to think about during this significant moment.
Studies have shown that when children have participated in a quiet moment prior to starting the day, they have benefited in all developmental areas. It serves to diffuse any stress and open the mind to new experiences.
This reflective time also specifically allows children to focus on something that can help shape how the day progresses. It opens a space for justice and morality on the priorities that YOU share, which supports children to become compassionate human beings and responsible citizens in today’s world. This quiet moment is not a time children share their thoughts and feelings but, simply to stop and reflect.
Note: On days when there is no school, ensure that your child begins their day with a reflective moment to focus on the thought you shared with them as the important way to start their day.
Parents have asked us to share what might be appropriate to tell children to focus on during this moment. We are sharing what other parents have said they tell their children:
I will be honest, fair, and kind.
Thank you G-d for all that I have.
I will use all I learn to be a good person.
Please help me to grow in the right way.
Thank you for this day.
G-d is always with me.
I will try my best today.
Please help me to make this world a place of goodness and kindness.
I respect myself, respect others and respect my environment.
