From Your Instructional Coordinator Gara Shockett

I’m thrilled to connect with you as your Instructional Coordinator. My journey in early childhood education began fifteen years ago as a special educator, and since then, I’ve had the privilege of wearing many hats in this field—teacher, educational director, college instructional advisor, and principal of a Head Start program. These diverse roles have equipped me with a deep understanding of early childhood education and a strong commitment to fostering growth and development in both children and educators.

My natural love and passion for early childhood education drive me each day. I’m dedicated to mentoring and supporting our amazing teachers and directors, guiding them toward excellence in their classrooms. I also remain deeply engaged in personal research, constantly exploring the latest advancements in this ever-evolving field.

On a personal note, I’m a newlywed living on the Upper East Side with my wonderful husband, Jordan, and our Labradoodle, Cooper. I love spending time with close friends, my sister, and my parents, sharing lots of laughter and joy. I believe that laughter and social connections are essential, not just for adults but especially for children. For me, childhood is a time filled with magic and imagination, hugs, and care—experiences that are unique to this special time of life. I’m passionate about ensuring that our program offers children everything they need to enjoy their childhoods to the fullest. It’s important that they feel connected socially with their caretakers and family, creating memories filled with joy and laughter that they will carry with them forever.

I’m excited to share insights, updates, and resources with you. Together, we’ll continue creating enriching and supportive learning environments where our young learners can truly thrive.
