5 Ways to Get Ready for Winter

Just when fall has seemed to settle in, winter is upon us. There’s a nip in the air, the sun sets well before bedtime, and some of us have already seen snow on the ground.

Before we’re all bundled up, here are 5 ways to prepare yourself for the season.

Pack Up Your Non-Winter Clothing

Make room for those turtlenecks and sweaters you’ll be wearing for the next few months. Storage bags or boxes will do the trick until springtime. If you have lots of closet and dresser space, you may not need to do this at all. Still, organize your wardrobe so all your winter items are easily accessible.

Seal Up Your Home for Insulation

Stay warmer this winter and save money on your heating bills while you’re at it. Check around the windows and doors of your home for any cracks that don’t seem well-insulated before the temperature drops. You can repair these yourself or have a professional come in to do it for you. No drafts means you won’t have to crank up the heat as high.

Plan Ahead for the Holidays

Don’t wait until the last minute to make your 2021 holiday plans. Avoid the end-of-the-year chaos by checking off your to-do list now. While you’re at it, plan for New Year’s too! When you’re prepared ahead of time, you’ll enjoy the festivities much more.

Indoor Fun

Keep lots of entertaining things on hand for the kids to play with in the house. Stock up on board games, a deck of cards, baking supplies, arts & crafts, etc. While the kids will want play in the snow, they won’t stay outside for long. Once they’re in for the day, some hot cocoa and indoor play is a pleasure

Keep Yourself Healthy

Cold and flu season is serious business, not to mention Covid. Eat healthfully, stay active, get plenty of sleep, and see your doctor if you’re not feeling well. Your children will follow your lead, so set an example they will benefit from.

What do you do to get ready for winter? What is your favorite thing about winter? Your least favorite?
