Swing Into Spring – Fun For Families As The Weather Warms Up

While the winter weather is still keeping us bundled up, we can look forward to the start of spring in just a few weeks.

The thrill of that first snowfall and cuddling under the covers has lost its charm, and we’re ready for outdoor activities under the sun and storing our winter coats away in the attic.

As spring approaches, there’s plenty to do with the family. This year especially, after spending so much time at home, it will be a pleasure to enjoy the season with a sense of renewal and reawakening. Yes, we’ll still have to practice proactive measures to keep COVID at bay, but with proper safety, everyone can have a good time together.

Here are a few fun ideas for families for spring excitement. As the flowers bloom and the chill switches to something more comfortable, “spring fever” will spread nothing but smiles.

Park Picnic

Snacking on the sofa is fun for movie night, but getting out into the fresh air for a meal is so much better. Pack a picnic basket with some sandwiches, sides, and snacks, a bunch of beverages, and plenty of napkins. Tote everything to the park and lay out a big blanket in a shady spot. Dig in and delight in good food and unforgettable family time.

Grow Vegetables

If you have your own garden, you have an advantage, but you can also grow veggies right on your windowsill. Cherry tomatoes are always a crowd pleaser, and growing your own lettuce means salads are always crisp and fresh. You can always start out with herbs, perfect for seasoning and sprinkling over your favorite dishes. The kids will love eating what they’ve “created,” and you’ll be pleased that they’re finally asking for veggies!

Family Strolls

Make the most of the nicer weather by taking a family walk around the neighborhood. You can do a pre-dinner stroll, an evening walk after eating, or wake up bright and early and get out there first thing in the morning. The time together will be a bonding experience, and you’ll also get some exercise. Make this a habit to look forward to as many times per week as possible.
