What Do Your Kids Miss About School During the Summer?
Summer is so much fun with lots to do and more daylight to do it.
Ask most kids and they’ll say that summer is their favorite season. Even so, there are things about the school year that are special, and not necessarily part of our summer activities.
Check with your children to find out what they miss about school during the summer. You may be surprised by what they tell you. These four below might be on their list.
Their Friends
Some of the children in your child’s class won’t be around this summer. Hopefully they’ll catch up in the fall! Perhaps your kids will make new friends at camp or around town this summer.
Reading Groups and Book Clubs
We may read more in school than we do in summer camp, but don’t pack away those books for the season. Read at home with the kids whenever you have a chance. Kids can still get together for reading circles at the park under a shady tree.
Teachers and School Staff
The devoted teachers and staff at school are on our minds when the school year ends. We’ll miss them while school’s out for summer. Perhaps your child’s teacher is a camp counselor too. Be sure to wish your children’s teachers a nice summer and thank them for all they do.
After-School Activities
The fun extracurriculars the kids enjoy make the time after school special. Keep them active during the summer with sports, arts and crafts, dancing, music, and the like. Talk to other parents about getting the kids together for organized activities.
